Solution

What can be done to simplify the approach to this method?

L1 ( star observed in Jan ) and L2 ( star observed in Jul ) form adjacent angles ϕ and θ since they share the common side and vertex. Hence Parasec can be considered as the slope of the equation ( m1, m2 ).

This can be put into the general form as :

tanθ=m2m1/1+m2m1tan\theta = m2-m1/1 + m2m1

tanϕ=m1m2/1+m1m2tan\phi = m1-m2/1 + m1m2

This will ease the process to find parsecs, after getting parsecs the distance can be simply measured by using -

d=1/pd = 1/p

where d is the distance ( in parsecs ) and p is the angle in seconds of arc.
